Nies, who served as an assistant coach for the USHL’s Tri-City Storm the past two seasons (2021-2023), will join director of player personnel Rod Braceful (Detroit, Mich.) in recruiting and evaluating prospective players for the NTDP.

The Brookline, Mass., native helped lead the Storm to consecutive playoff appearances during his two seasons with Tri-City, including a Western Conference championship in 2021-22.

Prior to the Storm, Nies spent three seasons with the Omaha Lancers, serving as assistant coach (2018-21) and assistant general manager (2019-21), while helping lead the Lancers to the Clark Cup Playoffs in his third year on the bench.

Before coming to the USHL, Nies had stops as an assistant coach with the NAHL’s Amarillo Bulls (2017-18), video coach at Merrimack College (2016-17) and as an assistant coach at Curry (Mass.) College (2015-16).

Nies skated collegiately for four seasons (2009-13) at the University of Southern Maine, where he was named captain of the Huskies during his junior and senior seasons.
